Colors of Summer

I began photographing Colors of Summer back in 2017 on the small Mediterranean island of Malta, a place that has always fascinated me for the way it holds on to its traditions while the world around it changes so quickly. Malta sits at a cultural crossroads between Europe and North Africa, and you can feel it everywhere—from the unique Maltese language, a rare blend of Arabic, Italian, French, and English, to the way faith and festivity are so deeply intertwined in daily life. With this series, I wanted to create a kind of time capsule: a way to preserve the vibrancy of the local summer Festa celebrations, when entire villages spill into the streets to honor their saints with mass, music, food, fireworks, and days of togetherness. For me, it’s about more than documenting parties—it’s about tracing the heartbeat of a culture that’s rich, resilient, and at risk of fading in the tide of globalization.
